In this blog, Kari - De Groene Mama - talks about her experiences on the road to healthier hair. Curious about what she does to keep her hair healthy? Then read on!
As a teenager, I dyed my hair with chemical dyes. I am blonde, but I dyed it black, brown, red and then bleached it again. This was disastrous for my already thin hair. After my pregnancies, things didn't really improve: my hair became thinner and thinner. Even though I knew it wasn't good for my hair, I started using a curling iron again. This only caused more damage.
That's why I decided last month to change course. I'm going for healthy hair. Part of that starts on the outside, by not dyeing it and not using heat on it. But a significant part of it also starts on the inside, with the nutritional supplements I take. In this blog, I'll take you through the supplements you need for healthy hair growth.
Which vitamins and minerals do you need for healthy hair growth?
Which ones don't you need? Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, iron, selenium, zinc: they are all necessary for healthy hair. But you also need proteins and healthy fats, such as omega 3, for hair growth. One B vitamin that stands out in all advice on healthy hair growth is biotin. Biotin is a B vitamin (B8). Biotin helps release energy from carbohydrates, fats and proteins in food. It contributes to normal hair growth and keeps your hair strong, shiny and healthy.
Biotin is found in animal products such as milk, eggs and liver. I am vegan, so I have to get biotin from nuts, seeds and avocados, for example. A biotin deficiency can manifest itself in fatigue, reduced immunity and brittle nails, but also in thinning hair and hair loss. Given the condition of my hair, I can assume that I need extra biotin. That is why I use a supplement.
Biotin from VitaminFit
The biotin from Vitaminfit is the liquid form of vitamin B8, together with BioPiperine extract (black pepper). This promotes the absorption of biotin in the body. Like all other Vitaminfit supplements, the drops are 100% natural and plant-based. The drops are suitable for both adults (15 drops per day) and children (5 drops per day).
I use biotin in combination with a number of other important supplements, such as vitamin D, iron, omega 3 and vitamin B12. And of course, by choosing peanuts, sunflower seeds, almonds and walnuts, I also try to get as much biotin as possible from plant-based foods.
